D-BSSE meets Industry (DMI) was founded in 2015 with the goal to bridge the gap between academia and industry in Basel and increase the frequency of career-related events in our proximity. We present speakers from various backgrounds, organize industry site visits, or invite for industry related fireside chats. We aim to foster connections between our department and different industrial fields. We believe that this endeavor offers multiple benefits to D-BSSE scientists, ranging from the identification of potential alternative career paths in industry to an increased appreciation of our department in the Basel life science community, therefore enabling future collaborations. To foster the dialoged, also other Basel-based research institutions such as the Friedrich Miescher Institute (FMI), the University of Basel, or the Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz (FHNW) are welcomed to our events. We can now look back on five years of inspiring talks, stimulating discussions, and networking opportunities beyond the realms of typical academic work at our department.
